A single malt from Bunnahabhain Distillery bottled by Stravaig Spirits. Distilled on the 7th of March 2013 and aged for 9 years in Refill Bourbon Hogshead before bottling at ABV of 58.3% with no additional colour and no-chill filtration.
“Pronounced “tree ka-rah” which translated to “three pillars” in Gaelic. Symbolising the three simple ingredients of water, barley and yeast that masterfullycombined to create single malt whisky. For us, it also represents quality, the character of our unique single malts, and the respect we have for every drinkers’ opinion. Try Carragh is built on these principles.” – Stravaig Spirits.
TASTING NOTES
NOSE | Initial unreduced nose of boozy vanilla sponge and marzipan, followed by sweet tobacco, fresh sea air – almost like when a freshwater river meets the sea with beach fire embers with a hint of burnt marshmallow from yesterday’s s’mores. The nose with water is moral floral, heather, grassy sand dunes, seaside leaves with a hint of lemon. |
PALATE | First a lovely sweet and salted under ripe pear, lingering lemon and mint cordial, sherbet, white pepper, and lasting apple flavoured vape. With water it still has a hint of smoke with a slight spice bite, much more juicy sweetness now too again with Apple and now Melon. Seaside freshness throughout. |
